On the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh paid a state visit to the UAE from 24 to 26 November 2010 — the first UK royal state visit to the country in thirty-one years.
The programme included a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Zayed National Museum, a state lunch at Al Mushrif Palace with twenty-one-gun salute and Guard of Honour, a state banquet, a private audience with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a military fly-past, and an investiture ceremony.
